HISTORY AND BACKGROUND:
Adidome Unity Ladies Football Club was founded in 2023 by Joseph Kaledzi Mitusah, a passionate educator and community advocate in the Volta Region. Witnessing the lack of opportunities available to girls in his rural community, he took it upon himself to build a football team from the ground up — not just as a sport, but as a mission to uplift young lives. With no external funding and operating on the modest salary of a classroom teacher, Mr. Mitusah began purchasing football boots, jerseys, training equipment, and even food and school supplies for the girls. Most of the players came from families of peasant farmers who could not afford to support their daughters’ education, let alone extra-curricular development. In several cases, he personally paid for the secondary school enrollment of talented but disadvantaged players. Despite the odds, Unity Ladies FC quickly emerged as a force in the local football scene.
Within just two years, the club:
Secured 2nd place in the Volta Region Women’s Division One League
Qualified for the Women’s FA Cup
Produced several players with the potential to play at the national level
Provided a pathway for over 10 girls to return to school and pursue personal development
The club serves as a safe haven and development hub for girls aged 13–21, combining football training with life skills, education support, and character development. Unity Ladies FC stands as a beacon of hope in Adidome — proving that grassroots football, when driven by passion and purpose, can change lives.
